Ammonia, a renewable fuel with zero CO2 emissions

July 2011
PROBATEX sc
Edgar Vercruysse, Ir. RUG
Emmanuel De Neyer, Final Master's in Civil Engineering, in progress at the UCL (Catholic University of Louvain)

This paper discusses the potential of ammonia as a fuel. It’s currently used as a fertilizer but can be stored as a liquid fuel. Its combustion only releases nitrogen and water, which are also the raw materials for its production. Using ammonia could help meet global energy goals if temporary subsidies are provided. The document also details the production process of ammonia, the cost of green ammonia production, and the price comparison between fossil and green ammonia. Please note that this is a summary and some details may be omitted.
